ALL FOODS SOLD AS VEGETARIAN MAY NOT BE
REALLY VEGETARIAN
Certain food types available in the market which appear to be vegetarian may
not, after all, be vegetarian. It turns out that many food manufacturers are not
legally obliged to disclose all the ingredients used in the preparation of
packaged food available in the market.Following items are particularly worthy of
your attention. Certain ingredients used in these food types are squarely
against our core values and therefore, caution must be exercised in daily life:
1. Sugar Facts:
There are major two types of sugars available in the market - Cane Sugar and
Beet Sugar. Do not buy or use 'Fine or Granulated' Cane sugar as it is processed
using cow bone char for discoloring. Cow bone char is a fine mixture of cow bone
in a power format boiled at highest temperature to process sugar to its current
white form. Beet Sugar is not processed with non-vegetarian contents and fine to
use. For more information, go to:
www.vrg.org/journal/vj97mar/973sugar.htm.
2. Cheese Facts:
Most cheeses available in the market and Pizza joints are often made with
Rennin, a non-vegetarian product, used in processing cheese for mass commercial
use. Some vegetarian cheeses also contain certain animal products. For
information on chesses you can use, go to :
www.vrg.org/nutshell/cheese.htm
3. Use of Natural Flavors:
Natural Flavors may contain certain meat, seafood, poultry, eggs etc. That means
exercise precaution when a label on packaged food, candy or gum says 'natural
flavors'
4. Similarly, avoid any packaged food items with following contents on its
label :
E120 - cochineal (red food coloring made from crushed beetles)
E542 - edible bone phosphate
E631 - sodium 5'-inosinate
E901 - beeswax
E904 - shellac
E920 - L-cysteine hydrochloride
Ingredients with the following "E" numbers may be animal derived: 101, 101a,
153, 203, 213, 227, 270, 282, 302, 322, 325, 326, 327, 333, 341a, 341b, 341c,
404, 422, 430, 431, 432, 433, 434, 435, 436, 470, 471, 472a, 472b, 472c, 472d,
472e, 473, 474, 475, 476, 477, 478, 481, 482, 483, 491, 492, 493, 494, 495, 570,
572, 627, and 635. To read more go to:

5. Fact about Bread :
Some breads contain a substance called Cystine, which is full of amino acid,
required to be put in bread. Most breads containing Cystine use human hair in
production, since human body produces some amino acid. (I am not saying all
breads have it, but be careful to check the label on it for this item).
6.Avoid & following ingredients as they have the high probability of
containing either animal products : Mono-Diglycerides, amylase, Stearic
Acid, Glycerine.
The above facts have been thoroughly collected, analyzed and listed by the
Vegetarian Resource Group, a non-profit organization, dedicated to spreading the
vegetarianism. The Group is based out of Baltimore, MD and its website is
