ANIMAL PERFORMANCE IN CIRCUS BANNED AT
JALANDHAR, PUNJAB
May 28, Following the objections from the Animal Welfare Board of India, the
district administration yesterday banned performance by animals in circus here.
Performance by animals in circus show was suspended in Moga also on May 12 when
the Board team led by executive member Dr. Sandip Jain found that the circus
management was not filing mandatory monthly fitness certificates of animals with
the board and the local authorities. Circus shows were stopped, following
directions by the Magistrate, Mr G.S. Khaira after Dr Sandip Jain complained to
the Jalandhar Deputy Commissioner Mr Ashok Gupta, that the circus was violating
provisions of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act-1960 and the Performing
Animals Registration Rules 2001.
