BAN ON TOBACCO
SALE AROUND EDUCATIONAL
INSTITUTIONS IN
INDIA FROM 1ST
DECEMBER

According to a notification issued by the Health Department of
the Government of India, the sale of Tobacco and all its products in the near
vicinity of schools and colleges, located within 100 meters periphery has been
completely banned in the whole country with effect from the 1st December, 2004.
As there are a large number of such institutions in every locality, about 80
percent area in every town is going to be covered as prohibited for the sale of
Tobacco products. It is to be noted that through a previous notification, the
Government had imposed a ban on the sale of Tobacco products by persons below
the age of 18 years. Thus this order will further tighten the ban for preventing
the sale of these prohibited materials.
