Pillars
of Jain World
|
|
Jain world is a
result of great dedication by many outstanding
individuals.
One such
individual who deserves special mention is Dr.
Premchand Gada of Lubbock, Texas, USA.
He is actively associated with Jain World for 8
years and is responsible for visualizing and
creating many sections on Jain World which are
extremely popular.
|

|
| His
many other contributions are given below.
In 1987 Premji
came up with the Jain library idea. His family
brought two suitcases full of books from India
and a small library was started. Over a span of
3 years he had collected close of 8000 books,
which he housed in his medical practice office.
To facilitate the checking-out of books, he had
also provided a toll free number for people to
call and his support staff would mail the book
to the caller. This library was subsequently
transferred to JAINA and the books are now
housed in the library maintained by Jain Society
of Southern California.
The second project that Premji initiated as
JAINA Education Chairman, was to write books in
simple English that could be useful to educate
children about Jainism. To achieve this goal he
had invited two Jain scholars; Malookchand Shah
from Ahmedabad and R. K. Jain from New Delhi,
who stayed with him for six moths to complete
this project. They produced 10 sets of books to
be used at different age levels.
Now, Premji is working on an interesting website
for children's education. Further he has a
vision of creating a Jain Movement specifically
targeted for the Young Jain Families.

Dear Sir,
At the jainworld website, there is available an
electronic form of the
sacred scripture, the Satkhandagama.
http://www.jainworld.com/test/shaktkhandagam/index.html
The Satkhandagama is
divided into two parts, the first consisting of 6,000
sutras with the Dhavala commentary. This was published
in Prakrit with Hindi
translation in 16 volumes. The main and primary core of
the Satkandagama is the second part, consisting of
40,000 sutras/verses with no commentary, it is called
Mahabandha, it was published seperately in Prakrit with
Hindi translation, consisting of 7 volumes in total. The
Electronic edition of the Stakhandagama only includes
the former in 16 volumes.
Is there any plans to also put the Mahabandha in
published electronic form? If not, what is needed to
have this done?

JAINA
- NEXT 25 YEARS
By Dilip V Shah
President JAINA
|
|
Previously,
I have chronicled the 25-year journey of
JAINA from its inception to the silver
Jubilee year of 2005. The formative
years of JAINA have seen a phenomenal
growth from a handful of centers in 1981
to 67 centers spread all over North
America in 2007. Founding visionaries
Gurudev Shri Chitrabhanuji and late
Acharya Shree Sushil Kumarji inspired a
non sectarian organization that is the
foremost example of unity in the Jain
universe. Today JAINA serves over
100,000 Jains without any regard to
language, place of origin or sect and is
the largest such organization in the
world. JAINA is seen as a model of unity
around the world and admired for its
ability to unite so many individuals
with a common goal.

It
is said that once a cow of a villager (Chamar)
stopped providing milk. Days passed but he could
not get a single drop of milk from that cow. He
was amazed of the nature and decided to follow it.
He found that the cow always leaves her
companions, climbs up on the hill and stands at a
certain place where the milk starts coming out of
her.
After coming to a decesion he started dugging the
said place and found the idol of Shri Mahaveer
Bhagwan. The news spread and people from nearby
area came to see this wonderfull idol. They found
that all their thinkings were fulfilled just
visiting the place.
